Artist Riitta Ikonen and photographer Karoline Hjorth met during an artist residency in Norway in May 2011. There they devised the photographic project, Eyes As Big As Plates.
The first part of the series was produced in collaboration with local senior heroes, sailors and 90-year old parachuters. Since then there have been similar projects in Finland, New York, France, the Faroe Islands and Iceland. The ongoing project explores the bonds we forge with our surroundings through references to protagonists of folklore and infused with the participating seniors’ own stories.
